Value of

Community-building is held as a primary foundational value at KJDS, integrated into our pedagogy as well as social-learning programing. Our signature “Special Friends” initiative pairs our students with community volunteers for engaging holiday celebrations and enjoyable educational activities throughout the academic year. Our community-based initiatives and projects continue to inspire our students to become more interactive and engaged within the classroom, the school community, and the broader community.

One of our main goals is teaching the value of community. Community-building is a cornerstone of our approach to education, and we aim to inspire our students to want to help out within the broader community.

Special Friends

Our KJDS Special Friends program has become a special trademark of a KJDS experience. Students and their “special friend”-community volunteers who share their time, talent and love with our students- come together for holiday celebrations, and various fun and educational events throughout the year. This group of volunteers brings a wonderful cross-generational aspect to our school holidays. The holidays are a time we might miss our relatives. But bringing these students together with an adult who becomes their friend from the community gives both sides a touch of family.

Our signature “Special Friends'' programming has become a unique and cherished part of the KJDS experience. Students, alongside community volunteers, come together for engaging holiday celebrations and enjoyable educational activities throughout the year. These events foster meaningful connections and allow our students to build relationships with the growing Jewish community in Knoxville, creating a truly memorable experience.

Our parents

At KJDS we valued the school-parent partnership. Events throughout the year offer many opportunities for parents to be actively involved in their learners journey. From transforming our school for our Ron Clark “Beyond Belief Day”, to putting on a Parent Talent show for the cast party, to showing appreciation for our teachers to joining field studies, parents are invited into our school and classrooms throughout the year.
